Solar, wind, wood & creating little waste:
Windy Corners tries to adhere to a tight nutrient cycle. With our composting toilet system, the food we grow and eat eventually returns back to the land it came from, providing the soil with essential nutrients so we can continue growing food for ourselves and fodder for our animals.
Any food scraps from cooking are either composted or fed to the animals.
The house is heated by a wood stove and furnace which powers our hot water heating system. We maintain a balance between growing trees and burning wood, and often put to use wood cut down for forest management purposes. Eventually, the ashes from the wood we burn also returns to the land as compost for new trees and plants.
Windy Corners has 16 solar panels for electricity, and a small wind turbine!
